Is a tumble dryer repair required or does your machine need a clean?

To keep your tumble dryer running at it’s best and for a long time, you must take care of it by cleaning the appliance regularly. There are multiple parts of a tumble dryer that require cleaning so we have put together a guide to help maintain your machine and avoid an unnecessary tumble dryer repair.

The Lint Filter.

We recommend cleaning the filter after every cycle, to avoid a potential fire hazard and to prevent blockages. The lint filter prevents fluff from blocking the dryer hose.

How to clean the lint filter:

  1. Open the dryer door and locate the filter.
  2. Pull out the fluff filter.
  3. Remove the fluff from the recess in the fluff filter.
  4. Optional: Rinse away any remaining fluff under running water.
  5. Dry the filter with a towel.
  6. Re-assemble the filter.
  7. Reinsert the filter back into position.

If your fluff filter is damaged, please get in touch with our team to book a tumble dryer repair or you can purchase a replacement from the Bosch spare parts shop here.

The EasyClean filter and heat exchanger for condenser dryers.

We would recommend cleaning this section of your condenser dryer every two weeks. How to clean your EasyClean filter and heat exchanger:

  1. Locate the EasyClean filter and open the maintenance flap on the heat exchanger.
  2. Release the levers on the filter and use the grip handle to pull the filter out.
  3. Take out the filter mat and wash by hand.
  4. Dry the filter mat.
  5. Check how grubby the dryer’s heat exchanger is before putting the EasyClean filter back in. Some can be removed and rinsed with water to remove any residual fluff.
  6. If the heat exchanger cannot be removed you can use a soft brush to clean it. Take extra care when cleaning the heat exchanger. Do not touch the fins with your bare hands.
  7. Slide the EasyClean filter in and lock it in place with the levers.

Clean the condensation unit for condenser and heat pump dryers.

If you have a condenser dryer you should see a tank which we would advise to empty after every cycle. When you remove the condensation tank, please be careful in case the water is still warm. In addition to this, there is no screw cap on the tank so take care not to spill any water. How to safely remove the condensation unit:

  1. Pull the tank out carefully from the machine and keep it in an upright position.
  2. Pour out the water in the sink.
  3. When finished, securely replace the tank back into the tumble dryer.

The Moisture Sensor.

Many tumble dryers come equipped with a stainless steel moisture sensor which measures how damp the laundry is. After continual use of the machine, the moisture sensor might become covered with a thin later of limescale or a residue from your detergent. If this residue isn’t removed regularly, the sensor will begin to malfunction and your drying results may be impaired.

All you have to do to clean this sensor is: Open the appliance door and thoroughly clean the moisture sensor with a sponge (the sensor is located in the door area). Do not use anything too abrasive like steel wool to clean the sensor because they can damage the sensor.

If you perform the above steps and keep your machine clean you will save money because your tumble dryer will be running at optimal performance meaning you will save energy.

If you have cleaned your tumble dryer and it’s still not performing correctly please don’t hesitate to book in your tumble dryer repair with our friendly and professional team.
